    Bennett Jackson Rushton Texas Pottery / Stoneware Worked in Texas (1853-1854) Brother of Joseph Rushton

    East Texas Pottery Stoneware
    B. J. Rushton came to Jones County, MS. 1855-1860 from TX. he found clay suitable for jug making in the NE part of the county and built a factory to make clay products. It was located about six miles east of where Laurel, MS is today. He was a slave holder, owning 13 at the 1860 census, for their burial place he selected a ridge west of the factory about 2 hundred yards. 9 slaves were buried, when his son Prince C. Rushton died, he buried him there, being the first white buried there, B. J. was killed by assassins Feb-02-1864 and is also buried there.
