Galveston, TX native, Frederick Carter was a prolific artist, commissioned to illustrate several book covers and paintings for collectors across the country. He served in WWII, attended A& M University and graduated from the Franklin School of Professional Art in New York, 1949.
He lived in El Paso for over 40 years, and during that time was commissioned to paint across the state. He was drawn to return to the ocean and painted coastal subject matter that reminded him of his Galveston upbringing.
His paintings have been exhibited in the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts; Houston museum of Fine Arts; Witte Memorial Museum, San Antonio; Isaac Delgado Museum of New Orleans; National Arts Club of New York; the national Academies Galleries of New York; and The El Paso Museum of Art.
Listed in past editions of WHO IS WHO IN AMERICAN ART, Carter graduated with honors from the Franklin School of Professional Art in New York. His paintings are held in numerous corporate collections in Texas and beyond. His commissions include work for Ford Motor Company; exhibitions include the National Academy Galleries, the El Paso Museum of Fine Art and 23rd Annual Texas painting and Sculpture Exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Fine Art (oil, catalog entry #12) plus numerous gallery exhibitions and one-man shows with galleries in Texas and Santa Fe.
